THP-Plus Institute

2015 THP-Plus and THP+FC Institute

This year marks the third year of THP+FC implementation and the first cohort of 21 year-old foster youth, nearly 2,000 youth, to age out of extended foster care in California. With all of these milestones for California’s foster care system and transitional housing programs, it is more than fitting for the child welfare community– social workers, probation officers, community-based service providers, attorneys and policymakers– to take a step back to reflect on the strengths of our supports for Transition-Aged Youth and where practices and programs can be improved. This Institute will be the sixth of its kind and, for the first time ever, will include discussion around addressing key challenges and best practices in THP+FC.

2013 THP-Plus Advocacy Institute

After two years of hearing warning bells THP-Plus providers are well aware that 2011 Realignment will require them to advocate for the continuation of their programs at the county level. The 2013 Institute consisted of  a series of  interactive workshops designed to equip participants with a practical, hands-on approach of how to advocate for THP-Plus in their county, and aimed to answer the following questions: How can I influence members of the elected board of supervisors while maintaining a good working relationship with agency staff? How much time can my organization put towards advocacy without jeopardizing our nonprofit tax status? With limited time, what are the essential activities my organization should be conducting?
